The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (www.unicatt.it), founded in 1921, includes five campuses (Milano, Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona, Roma and Campobasso) which cover 14 faculties. Their common goal is the understanding and study of those topics that have proved vital to the well-being of each human being: the new frontiers of economics, bioethics, environmental recuperation, developments in the judicial fields, family dynamics, major mass phenomena, the evolution of political systems, new horizons in medicine and the technological applications of physics and mathematics. The School of Medicine, established in Rome in 1961, provides healthcare through the teaching hospital Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli (www.policlinicogemelli.it).
The University has participated to European Projects involving – among others – Hospital response to Major Emergencies with specific focus on CBRNe, Decision Support Systems, nanomaterials and ethical/Data Protection compliance. In EDEN project (https://eden-security-fp7.eu/) UCSC was responsible for the ethical and legal issues, tool development and organized 2 full-scale demonstrations. UCSC is now involved as partner in ENCIRCLE – European Cbrn Innovation for the maRket CLuster (encircle-cbrn.eu/) and NO FEAR – Network Of practitioners For Emergency medicAl systems and cRitical care projects, both coordination and support actions and REACHING OUT – demonstRation of EU effective lArge sCale tHreat and crIsis maNaGement OUTside the EU a Horizon2020 DRS03.
